18 May Botswana Tennis Development On Right Track
According to Secretary General of Botswana Tennis association (BTA), Boikobo Gaolebalwe, tennis development in Botswana is on the right track.
Gaolebalwe in happy that the junior development is progressing and would like the parents to be committed to their children’s daily training..
“Some parents are committed to a certain level in which they would dig from their pockets and meet where the association cannot.
“We can only do this much with the funds we have been allocated as an association, but it is up for the parents to make sure they advance the kids to that level,” said Gaolebalwe.
Gaolebalwe would like to see International Tennis Federation (ITF) and Confederation of African Tennis (CAT) focus on players over 18 old. According to him, there are few tournaments at the senior level. He believes that the league and club championship they plan to have will help rectify the situation. The goal is to have the over 18 players maintain their performance level.
He believes this is one of the main reasons African players are missing at the Grand Slams.
